Pahrump Valley Model Aviators
Newsletter for June 2015
On Sunday, April 12th Bill and Marsha Newyear held a going away party
for Chuck and Linda Murray.
Chuck and Linda will begin their annual migration to Washington State
later in the week.
Bill and Marsha provided hamburgers, cheese burgers and hot dogs with
all, and I mean all the fixings for a great dinner. Combine that with a warm
beautiful sunset and great company and everyone had a great time.
Although Bill says Marsha needs no excuse for a party, they did a great
job and we would like to thank them for the use of their beautiful home.

On Tuesday, April 21st, Don Beatty noticed quad tracks that ran up and
down the runway, at least 3 to 4 passes. The tracks led us to the North-East
corner of the property.
There we discovered that some nefarious person or persons had removed
about 60-70 feet of fencing. They left all the poles except one.
It’s possible the quad rider was just an opportunist that noticed an open
fence and decided to explore the property. No damage was done, but continued
exposure to off-road vehicles will not do the runway any good.
On Friday, April 24th, Larry, Don, Doug and myself arrived at the field and
salvaged 70 feet of fence from the fence line inside the property and replaced
the missing fence at the north end of the field. Larry made a police report to let
the sheriffs know what is going on.
Well, that’s done. I hope the next event will be as simple to repair. Keep
your eyes peeled.

On February 16, the Club submitted a Memorandum of Understanding to
Nye County in an attempt to secure an area at the Fairgrounds for a R/C airfield.
In April, I called Nye County Commissioner Dan Schinhofen for an update.
His reply said he had submitted our MOU to the District Attorney and it was out
of his hands. As of today, June 10th, we have not had a reply.
To be fair, the Nye County Commissioners have concerned themselves
with a large county financial deficit.
I have very recently emailed Dan Schinhofen requesting an update, and I
hope to hear from him soon.
In the past, he was very prompt in his replies.

At a board meeting held on June 10th, board members decided that a
Funfly was to be held at Ron Murphy Field on July 11th, starting at 8 AM to 12
Noon.
We will hold 3 events- Limbo, bomb drop and touch and go.
Hot dogs, chips and water will be available for free for members and their
guests. Prizes instead of ribbons will be awarded for the total of all events
combined.
We realize that July can be hot, but we should be finished by Noon to
avoid the hottest part of the day.
Please bring your own chairs, sunscreen and water.
So, we would like every one to come out an fly!

Richard Cantino reports that Matt Luis, Pahrump building and grounds, is
preparing the fairgrounds for the fireworks launching site. This means they are
spreading Type 2 gravel for roads and access to the sites.
At the same time, even though we do not yet have approval for a flying
field, Matt will use available equipment to grade the landing area while they are
there working.
I have not received a reply from Dan Schinhofen, but Richard reports that
many in county government are aware of our MOU. This includes Pam Webster,
County manager.
Someday, but don’t hold your breath!
